KCITE is excited to parnter with BikeWalk KC to offer training for "Planning and Designing for Cyclists." 

This training includes a classroom session in the morning with an afternoon ride.  The ride will be approximatley 4 miles, mostly downhill.  BikeWalk KC will provide bikes, but attendees are also welcome to bring their own.  BikeWalk KC will provide lunch.

DESCRIPTION

BikeWalkKC’s Professional Development Series helps transportation professionals and public agency staff design and build better, safer, and more useful bicycle and pedestrian facilities. Our goal is to improve the quality of bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure by educating professionals, sharing best practices, and providing real world experience of local facilities from the perspective of people who walk and bike.

Bicycle Network Planning
  • Bicycle network planning considerations (techniques to evaluate demand, level of comfort, and connectivity)
Bicycle Facility Design
  • Overview of standard and innovative facilities
  • Best practices from the US and abroad
  • Good and bad local examples
  • Unique considerations for bicycle facility design
Bicycle Project Implementation
  • Considerations for bike facility construction
  • Project implementation lessons learned
  • Quick-builds, Pop-ups, and other project delivery alternatives
On the Ground
  • Intensive bike skills and bike safety training
  • Group bike ride to tour local bike facilities
